Lali

Somewhere in our minds there is a disconnect between the blog world and real life. We read all these posts and are happy about how clever and wise and funny and incisive we are when talking about the world’s problems, but of course bloggers don’t have problems of their own.

Reality struck back yesterday.

Lalita Mukherjea died. She stayed her lovely self through a painful battle against cancer. On Monday, after weighing the balance between the time gained and the pain endured, she stopped her medication and went her way. On her own terms. As usual.

She was … well, she was a wonderful person. We only met three times, but every time I was aware of a personality that was stronger, wiser, kinder. I won’t presume so far as to say trite things about a person who had such innate strength and, really, goodness. Read her blog. Her character is evident in every line.

Rest in peace, Lali.

I used to know Kalyan.
This is academic- but I was of the impression that her cancer (cervical I think) was in situ, and pre-malignant. So this is a huge shock.

This is heartbreaking :(

RIP, Lalita. Could you provide some information as to who she was? I loved whatever little I read of her blog.

What happens to blogs that dont have owners?

Not wanting and having to leave is different right? So then what happens?

Rest in peace Lalita. Your family will stay in our prayers.

Kalyan was my father's Professor, and later, colleague. Our families are rather close, so it was a bit of a shock. From all accounts, she was a most wonderful person. RIP.

I am shattered. It has been an year and I am not aware that Lali is no more! I curse myself that I did not keep in touch with her. I knew her through our chats and emails and in all the time that I knew her as a wonderful lady and (dare I say?) friend she never let me know that she had cancer. I feel a vacumn in me.

May her soul rest in peace! And give strenght to her husband and son to carry this burden.

I will miss her for the rest of my life!
