We don't know when we're lucky

I had a beef about flying from Calcutta to Ahmedabad. There is no conveniently timed direct flight. I have to fly via Delhi or Jaipur and then hustle to catch the direct flight back in the evening. To put that in perspective, it’s more than 3 hrs. if I take the hopping flight.

Now my friend V (of the Laphroaig evening mentioned earlier) is visiting again. He’s moved to Portland, Oregon (from Brazil – the man is mad!). If HE needs to fly to New York, he has to change at LA. To put THAT in perspective, it’s 3 hrs. to LA and then a further 5 hrs. plus to NYC. Add transit time and it's 12 hrs. on an average.

I shan’t crib any more.

Just saying.

Oh you crybaby. I fly twice that distance *every* week. Twice a week.

And Portland is an awesome city, JAP. It's no Brazil, but still. People there read *books*.

Continental flies direct about twice a week, he says. Like Indian flies Cal-Amd direct.

KM, it hardly ever rains in Portland. Only when it isn't snowing, I'm told. As for books, he would have read in Sao Paulo but he got eye-strain before he could start. And whiplash.

gah. just typed a comment and it disappeared. a quick pass by continental.com suggests they have three direct flights daily -- i suggest your friend fire his brazilian travel agent.

re: the eye-strain and whiplash, i recommend frequent and several doses of succulent oregon pinot noir. willamette valley. mmmmmmm.

No JAP, no. You never 'crib', you 'whine'. Always. No exceptions. After all the times you corrected Jabberwock, this hurts. 'Crib' does not have any meaning synonymous with whine.

ah! nobody gets my name.
puranjoy != purna+joy,
it's puram(=city)+joy.

you know JAP, besides the contents of your blog, there are some people who look up to your blog for the correct english that you use in your writings. there are some, like me, who cannot piece together a couple of original sentences, but like the language nevertheless. they know that in your blog they will be reading good stuff. all the best, and keep bringing joy to me.

apropos of nothing, i really liked the flamenco piece.
