Getting it out of the way

It has to happen at some point of time - the "why do we blog" post. I'll leave it to Vikram Chandra ...

"Blogs are a revisualisation of the classical diary form. What you’re writing is a diary, but you’re doing it in an instantly accessible format. The audience is conceivably global. What it also indicates is that we are starting to think about about the self much more. Blogs reiterate the notion that the self exists in the public eye, one of the central thrusts of the 21st century. But blogs cannot satisfy the human mind’s hunger for narrative and plot.... Traditional narratives will always be important."

Interview in the Indian Express, discovered through Uma.

This, of course, does not cover MY motivation. I'm only in it for the money. Google Ad Sense doesn't cut it, so those of you who have had kind words for me, could you get off your collective .. umm, sofas and find somebody who'll give me a 9-figure contract? In US$, thank you very much. (OK, say 7 figures. WITH the decimal and the cents ....) Hmmm?

I disagree... The idea behind the diary was that it was private.. blogs are anything but...
I believe blogs are more about showing off. Putting your parade. Sequestering witnesses to our lives. Sometimes even a strange alternative form of communication.
"Look at me. This is me. This is my life. Can I see yours?"

Kaku (see, i even capitalised the K), ami ki tomar saathe co-author korte paari? taaka-poishar boddo tanatani jachhe, barely keeping body and soul together, academic performance might get me thrown over the old family threshold, and similiar assortment of troubles...

Add the voyeurism bit. BTW, I agree there should be some way to monetise the whole thing.

I write my blog because I NEED to write and I NEED people to read my writing in order to validate it. I think that's the simpleast reason. This makes me attention seeking and insecure, I guess?

Yet, how private are our diaries anyway? What we choose to write in it has a lot to do with how we see ourselves. The same with a blog. I think I the diary-blog analogy agrees well with me.

that's why I won't put Google Ads on my site. I figure I sure as hell never click on them, so I doubt most other people will either!

I write on my blog because:

- There is nothing good on TV

- All my friends are either at work or screening phone calls

- My parents can't talk for too long when at work

- No one else is giving me any attention at that time

I blog because:

- I can't write, and my blog is the only place where the trash (read writing) doesn't get junked

- Blogging is in vogue. I have this incorrigible herd mentality

- I don't know how to kill free time at work

- I am not sure whether I suffer from an acute attention-deficit syndrome. Through blogging, I am trying to find out whether I do

- I am very unsocial. I am desperately trying to improve those skills

- I think I need a personality transformation. I am first trying it out online.

Well your motivation seems simple enough, maybe mine is to be Father McKenzie, only time will tell.
